My First Experience With Forest Shuffle
I played Forest Shuffle last week and it was a blast—but not without a bit of early confusion.
At first, the game felt overwhelming. Most of the cards are dual-sided: some are split top and bottom, others left and right, essentially giving you two different cards to choose from every time you play one. Just figuring out how to look at your hand properly took a few turns.
Once I got used to evaluating the cards in my hand and started to recognize the combos unfolding on the table, the game really clicked. I honestly felt like I finally understood what I was doing around two-thirds of the way through the game.
By the end, though, Forest Shuffle did exactly what great strategy games do—it left me wanting to immediately play again and thinking about what I’d do differently next time.

Forest Shuffle is a nature-themed card game focused on building a personal forest full of trees, animals, plants, and fungi that score points through clever card interactions.

This is a game where early mistakes don’t ruin the experience—but they do make you want a rematch. For example, I made a play that was subpar early, thinking it would ruin my game. But there were SOO many turns and we both built up huge boards by the end of the game that the score was in the multiple hundreds. Plenty of time to catch up after a small mistake early.

Forest Shuffle shines when you start chaining effects together. A single well-placed card can suddenly activate multiple scoring opportunities across your forest.

You’re constantly choosing between:

- Short-term points vs. long-term payoff
High Replayability
Because the card mix changes every game, strategies that dominate one session might completely fail the next. That variability makes Forest Shuffle easy to bring back to the table. Though I did read some comments saying the game falls off after quite a few plays once you understand the combos much better. It seems like that would take a while with all of the expansions they have as well.

Yes—especially if you enjoy card games that reward learning through play.
Forest Shuffle may feel intimidating at first, but once the systems click, it becomes deeply engaging and strategically rich. The fact that it left me thinking about better strategies all night after my first play is the biggest compliment I can give it.
If you like engine builders, combo-driven scoring, and games that get better the more you play them, Forest Shuffle is absolutely worth your time.
